For the past nine years, Dawn has worked as a secondary English Language Arts educator in the public school system in and around Southwest Ohio. She has worked in urban, rural, and suburban districts meeting the educational needs of children from a diverse mix of backgrounds and cultures. In addition to general ELA education coursework, Dawn’s classroom teaching experience also includes gifted education, creative writing, film studies, and response to intervention. She is an Associate Professor at Wright State University in the College of Education’s Graduate Teaching Program in Fairborn, Ohio where she teaches Communication Arts for Educators and Measurement and Assessment for Educators. Dawn spends much of her free time blogging, writing, and presenting about all things education. Her work has been showcased in scholarly journals and at local, regional, and national conferences.
Prior to her experience as an educator, Dawn spent more than 10 years working for a well-known corporation in Dayton where she successfully led a number of marketing and publishing teams and projects. The time she spent in the private sector has been invaluable to her work as a teacher and as a teacher trainer. Through her experience as both a project and personnel manager, Dawn can help provide district leaders the support they need in order to hire, develop, and retain well-qualified teachers and support staff. Dawn possesses the skills and information to help educators hone in on what students need in order to be prepared to enter a competitive, global workforce after they leave high school.
Academically, Dawn holds a B.A. in Integrated Language Arts; an M.Ed.in Adolescent to Young Adult Education; and an Ed.S. in Curriculum, Instruction, and Professional Development. Dawn has served as English Department Chair at a number of Ohio public schools; a mentor and RESA Facilitator for the Ohio Resident Educator program; and a Cooperating Teacher for the Office of Field Partnerships at Wright State University.
Dawn resides in Springboro, Ohio with her husband, John; son, and future educator, John Raymond; and their giant fur-baby, Sampson. Dawn’s passions include football, martial arts, and education.
